It distresses me to see how laid back our world leaders are about the climate crisis, while I and so many like me suffer from eco-anxiety. How is it not a part of their agenda at all to take some action on this pressing issue?
Not only them, but even the citizens are so myopic and short-sighted. “Who cares if the temperature of the planet increases by 2 degrees? Our ACs at home are quite effective”. This attitude is the reason why the planet is dying. And if we don’t implement certain policies and changes in our lifestyle now, it’ll be too late.
I am very particular about the little things. I make sure that people around me are aware of and do something about the issues concerning the environment. I make sure the RO discharge water at home is collected and reused. I have hugely limited my usage of ACs ( chief producers of CFCs) and have succeeded in convincing many of my friends to keep theirs at 26 C or higher, which is an environment-friendly temperature.
These days, it has become a mainstream trend to post stories about climate change and the water crisis etc. Almost everyone pretends to be an environmentalist. It is easy for us to talk about these things, in the safety net and comfort of our luxurious lives, where we are far from facing the real impacts of global warming. But we need to think about the underprivileged section, the beggars and the homeless, who do not have a roof over their heads, those, who are out in the scorching heat 24 hours a day.
It’s true what everyone says, giving up usage of plastic, not consuming meat and dairy products, adapting to a zero-waste lifestyle; none of it may be significant if I am the only one doing it. But if I’m able to inspire even a small number of people to become sensitive towards their surroundings, I feel I have accomplished what I wanted to.
