Poem: Every Woman Is Durga

Giving happiness when she is born,
Supporting others even when forlorn.
The memory of the time bygone,
A rose that beautifies even a thorn.
Every Woman is Durga.

The help to anyone in need,
The knife to slaughter greed.
The name of God in every bead,
Since ages abiding by the creed.
Every woman is Durga.

The belief of temple priests,
The sun that rises from the east,
The step on the head of the beast,
The food that turns out to be a feast.
Every woman is Durga.

Making honey, the buzzing bee,
The seed that becomes the tree,
The bird in the sky flying free,
The money made with hard-working spree.
Every woman is Durga.

The power within me and you,
The patience we keep while passing through,
The flowers, the rain, the wind, the dew,
First ray of sun and the moon which is new.
Every woman is Durga.

The world that will never hold,
The scorching heat the blowing cold,
A million stories passed untold,
Treated like iron, but a soul of gold,
Every woman is Durga.

Unfailing love,
The purity of a dove,
The earth beneath,
And the sky above,

Every woman is Durga.
