Challenge is the element that drives people to strive to be the best version of themselves. With India Film Project’s 50 Hour Filmmaking Challenge, you get a chance to showcase your filmmaking abilities, work in coordination with a team and win huge prizes. Other than helping you get out of your comfort zone and giving you a challenge, here are some other reasons why should you participate in this competition.

The “50 Hour” Thrill

There are thousands of filmmakers who are vouching for this feature of the filmmaking challenge, that the unique 50-hour deadline adds the feeling of thrill while making the film. Filmmakers might have had different kinds of experiences, but making a film from scratch within this time frame is a one of its kind experience.

The Jury

The jury for the challenge includes some of the most prominent directors from the Indian film industry – Abhishek Chaubey, Anjali Menon, Pardeep Sarkar, and Pan Nalin. The filmmakers in a way get a chance to showcase their skills directly to these filmmakers. Their visibility increases in front of some of the best people from the film fraternity. To put a cherry on the top, the winning teams get a mentoring session from the jury members where they can learn about the art form from the experts.

Gateway to Other Huge Platforms

This year, the stakes are high! Winning films will be theatrically released in PVR Cinemas across India and will also get broadcast on MTV India. This way the participants get a platform for their films on a national level and they can reach a much wider audience.

Winner’s Take It All

It’s not just about recognition and the bigger platform. Winner’s get goodies worth ₹12 lacs from GoPro (action camera), Aputure (professional lights), Deity (audio gear) and Nikon. The gear that will help them make their filmmaking craft even better.

Tailormade Categories

Like any other art form, even filmmaking has different levels of the craft, different experiences and the method might also be subjective, hence the challenge has 3 different categories to accommodate all kinds of filmmakers in the competition.

The Professional Filmmaking category, for the experienced teams whose leaders have made 3 or more films in the past are eligible.

The Amateur Filmmaking category is for the teams whose leaders have made none or less than three films in the past.

The Mobile Filmmaking which is open for everyone, but the film has to be shot on a mobile phone, which is a different ball game altogether.

The Most Productive Weekend You’ll Spend

There are also many teams that consist of students and aspiring filmmakers who do not necessarily have great filmmaking experience but they participate in the amateur category or mobile filmmaking category and manage to pull off a film in 50 hours and participate in order to have a fun learning experience over the weekend, as the whole activity is full of learnings and lessons.

The creative challenges are followed by an on-ground festival that happens in Mumbai and becomes more like a gathering of who’s who of Indian films, digital, literature, and music industry. The festival this year is scheduled to be organized on October 12 & 13 at  Mehboob Studio, Mumbai and will be attended by over 30,000 content enthusiasts who travel down from across India. There will also be a screening of the winning films which will be witnessed by the creme de la creme people from the film fraternity.
