#IndiaBeatsPlastic – New buzz in the town

As the country gears up towards tackling the use of single-use plastic in the country, #IndiaBeatsPlastic is the new buzz word in over 50+ cities across the nation.

This comes at a time when the Honourable Prime Narendra Modi during his speech on 15th August gave a call towards moving away from single-use plastic and aiming at a sustainable future.

Modi urged people and government agencies to “take the first big step” on Oct. 2 towards freeing India of single-use plastic.

In line with the objective, United Way Delhi, the local chapter of the United Way Worldwide network, one of the oldest volunteer-driven not-for-profit, is mobilizing corporates, universities, schools, colleges, and RWAs to take the first big step and find alternatives to single-use plastic.

While pledge for the cause is being termed as a first step, United Way Delhi and the other United Way chapters in the country is holding a nationwide Plog Run Event on 2nd October.

Taking inspiration from Sweden, Plogging is an activity wherein people walk, jog or run and collect plastic along the route. The primary aim of the Plogging event is to establish a collective as well as a collaborative approach towards the cause and also raise awareness at a mass level.

Prime Minister’s flagship Swacch Bharat Mission has also joined the cause as a lead partner for the event.

Starting this week, the organization has also called for an online campaign #IndiaBeatsPlastic wherein the netizens are being encouraged to spread awareness around the campaign online using social media.
