We Must Join Hands With Young Activists Like Greta Thunberg

Since last year, everything has been about the earth finally giving a poignant reminder of the wreck caused by human beings through their advancements. The passing heat waves in the coldest parts of the world, blazing fire in the lungs of the globe, the Amazon, the erupting whirlpool Dorian, abundant rainfall, floods disturbing normal livelihoods, are flashed on every news channel around the globe. Amidst these catastrophic incidents, a little girl from nowhere is crying out to the world, to safeguard the very world which holds the future for her.

Industrialisation, testing of weapons, a series of events that we call ‘success’ to man’s innovation through the years, has directly impacted the earth’s atmosphere. Even after seeing the resentment displayed by nature in many ways, we still continue to focus our attention more on these so-called innovations. We launch satellites to capture the pictures of the globe that is deteriorating bit by bit as a result of our witless actions. We send space rovers to study the temperature of other planets when our own planet is on the rim of destruction. We launch wars against each other, without a thought about the land we are raging a war against, might not even exist in the next few years. Amidst this animosity, a little girl is raising her voice, to bring in change and save the only place we own to survive.

The earth is facing unpredictable changes, the ice capsules are melting at an unimaginable rate, around the world, there is rapid extinction of vast diversity of flora and fauna. Scientists around the world are emphasising the rapid rise of the earth’s temperature, and we as human beings, are facing the consequences of our livelihood. Amidst all this, only a little girl is ready to acknowledge that if we don’t take responsibility for our actions and incorporate changes, we might, in the coming few years, lose our planet and drive our future generations into extinction.

Reports and statistics from various researchers around the world, like Professor Sir David King, state that the climate is changing in unpredictable ways. An innumerable number of children are taking to the streets to protest for some action. Climate summits are being held at different parts of the globe in recent days. It is time for each one of us to acknowledge that the planet is being affected on a large scale. It is time for each one of us to join hands with this little girl, Greta Thunberg in saving any hopes of living on this beautiful planet. A small change might add an additional year to the earth’s existence.
