This Party Alliance Season, New Trends Are Emerging

Quite frankly, it is difficult to display the firmly affixed bodily energy in mending a strained relationship either in politics or in any other form. When elections approach, politicians begin searching for a middle way to establish an alliance in order to fight the electoral battle with a determined spirit.

The news about assembly elections in states like Maharashtra, Haryana and others sooner or later invites the talk on party alliances. It is always on the anvil. Prominent talks as of now are of Congress-BSP alliance and AIMIM and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi alliance respectively. But, the party presidents of the mentioned parties maintain silence on the move while senior leaders of all the four political parties state that the talk on entering into that positive direction is over after disagreement.

If we start with the Congress, its leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the alliance talks are closed now and they would fight for all the seats alone. A similar view is expressed by BSP leader Satish Mishra. He also said that the party would fight for all the 90 seats in Haryana.

Further, the AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel in the capacity of Maharashtra unit chief had recently declared that his party would part ways with Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi owing to differences over seat-sharing. While VBA President Prakash Ambedkar is bent upon getting the final word on seat sharing from AIMIM chief Assadudin Owaisi. Are these above-mentioned statements not contradictory?

In some ways, it indicates a new trend emerging in talks over political alliances. Just as political parties delay in declaring candidates’ names for contesting the poll, so do political leaders by testing time in the finalisation of alliances. They remain fully aware of this kind of political manoeuvre and study the situations. They do not mind the stress of mental energy spent in quelling all the reservations in this regard. At least they make themselves bold enough to say that it was a perfect choice made after months of a long, careful, and deep consideration.
