I dealt with the sciences in my A-levels (A- level is the international board recognised by all the countries for secondary education) for 4 years, because of the “open career options”, as per my parents and teachers. With 5 Cs and above, I managed to pass my IGCSE with a fair result. I wanted to take up liberal arts as my main stream but unfortunately, my school didn’t provide the option to study humanities. They just had science and commerce.
I questioned the principal for not having humanities and liberal arts as a new section, and the response was shocking. She said, “Aajkal sirf science ke liye jobs hai, warna ghar par rotiyon ke liye bhut taunts hai beta” (Only science has jobs nowadays, in order to earn and survive you need to take the sciences as your main subjects or else enjoy making chapatis for your whole life). I was extremely angry when she said this because I’ve seen many engineers who are jobless, not earning, and ultimately end up taking their lives out of despair. One of the main reasons behind this is the student satisfaction rate, and that depends on the institution.
‘Hard work’ plays a vital role in our lives and success. This was said and proved by our great leaders before. For example, if you work hard in the field of sports you could bring glory to the nation. You can set yourself as an example to the youth out there, who are caged, being forced to opt for subjects they don’t want to pursue, forced to make a career choice according to society, which ultimately decreases their talent and potential. They can bring glory to the nation by pursuing whichever field they want.
I believe each one of us can bring glory to our country, provided we work hard and turn our passion into our profession. Every profession is equal, every profession requires hard work. Even making properly shaped chapatis requires hard work. Without hard work and faith, achieving anything would be impossible, but with them, you can conquer your inner self and society.
All subjects have their own dignity and importance. My father is also an engineer. It took him many years to acquire the position he is in now. Because of his hard work and faith, he was able to succeed. Everything is possible with hard work and faith. Do the best you can. Set an example for all the youngsters out there. Tell them to not fear the subjects they take. ‘Make your passion your profession. Live happily’ Make your parents and yourself proud of what you are today. Jai Hind.
