The Clock Is Ticking On Climate Change And The Time To Act Is Now!

Remember waking up to your exam day in school and realising it was late and you might not be able to make it to the exam hall in time?! Wasn’t that scary? Did it give you a feeling of the ground slipping under your feet? If it did, then so should the grave climate change! The clock is ticking, and before it’s time that the alarm goes off, it would be the best decision to take solid, impactful action.

I developed chronic asthma at the age of 18.  It has gotten worse since. Living in a big city is a far off dream now; because, the bigger the city, the more likely there is pollution resulting in more asthma! I prefer to live in a small town.

Diseases like asthma, allergies, lung and respiratory disorders and the worst cancers are on the rise. You can’t run away from genetically-modified foods, polluted land, water and air. If you have travelled on the roads in most of the big Indian cities, you sometimes feel like you are breathing in petrol or diesel. You are scared of whatever food you eat. Isn’t it a scary scenario to imagine that the food, air and water are scaring you more than death itself?! It’s a scary time to live in. Climate change has widespread impacts, some of which you may not visibly see.

It’s a scary time to raise children when you have to worry about whether the food they are eating is contaminated.

The Government of India has issued millions of rupees to deal with the water crisis.

I live in Ohio, USA. I see many movements every now and then to make people aware of climate change. In my personal conversations with aged people, it always comes up that weather cycles have become so abrupt nowadays. In their times, there were four defined seasons – summer, winter, fall and spring. Even in India, people are talking about climate change in their casual conversations. Climate change is being taught in school the syllabus, both, in the USA and India. People protest against policies in front of the White House, in Washington, USA.

These movements are welcomed and should be.  But, reading about climate change, seeing the visible changes around, I feel the clock is ticking faster and the alarm is going to go off soon.

Strict policies and regulations need to be made and implemented by governments on a global scale. People need to be more cooperative than ever before to follow these regulations. For example, plastic waste is piling up and causing air, water and land pollution. The Government needs to ban all plastic manufacturing and needs to introduce sustainable, biodegradable plastic alternatives ASAP.

Strict regulations for industries and their climate policies need to be implemented.

I firmly believe that now is the time to do something not just on a state, nation or continent-scale, but, it’s time to do it together as the inhabitants of the earth. Because climate destruction is impacting not only you in your place but all the inhabitants of this planet earth.

Let’s get together to fight off this change and I wish and pray we save this earth together.
