The Festival of Ideas and Resistance, jointly organised by the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of Kerala State Committee and Campus Alive Academic Webportal will take place on 27–29th December 2019 at Aspin Courtyards near Kozhikode beach. The three-day festival is an endeavour to form an open space for innovative avenues of politics and knowledge by scrutinising different epistemological stances of marginalised communities who were mostly appropriated to public discourses.
Film director Pa. Ranjith made the official announcement of the festival. He shared about the mainstream knowledge and art forms that have produced a stereotypical narration of Muslim-Adivasi-Dalit lives. The Festival of Ideas and Resistance is one of the sincere attempts from these communities to dismiss and overwrite those dominant narratives. P. Mujeebu Rahman, Assistant Ameer of Jamath e Islami Kerala released the logo of the festival.
The festival envisages a grand celebration of minority narratives and cultural resistance through academic discussions, talks, debates, conversations, art installations, exhibitions, expos and cultural events. Different topics around knowledge, theory, politics, aesthetics, art and literature will be discussed in the festival.
Hundreds of guests who are in the actual domain of knowledge politics and social justice, but were marginalised from the mainstream debates and cultural festivals, will be participating in the event. Various national and international personalities, including academicians, writers, community leaders, activists, artists, litterateurs and cinema activists are participating in the festival. The festival features an art exhibition, expo and cultural performances in collaboration with different art-cultural-educational-media and business ventures.
Shiyas Perumathura is the director and curator of the festival in which SIO State President Salih Kottappalli act as Chairman and General Secretary Binas TA as the Vice-Chairman. Shameer Babu, the SIO state committee member, is the general convenor of the event.
