The time of monarchy does not exist the way it existed in the bygone days. The royals used to move incognito in those days and the subjects did not recognise them. That time has changed but the people are still not able to identify the royals, despite wide exposure through the fast satellite system.
It is often emphasised that the whole world has turned into a global village. But strangely enough, Americans still could not readily recognise the British Queen, despite coming near royalty, in Scotland. She was walking on the grounds of her summer residence, Balmoral Castle, which tourists get to visit during the summertime. They even spoke to her and asked the most desired question: if she had met the Queen, without the least realisation that they were having a direct conversation with her. The Queen also concealed her identity. Was it a bit of prank on her part? The action, if deliberately done to create fun of other people, is strongly acceptable.
In this regard, she showed that only royals have been attributed with the quality of concealing their real identity. In the past, the exposure of royals was not wide but the incognito trait sticks with royalty even today. The way Britain’s 93-year-old Queen Elizabeth concealed her identity from American tourists, who happened to meet Her Majesty outside Balmoral Castle in Scotland, remains a piece of interesting news. Aptly dressed in tweeds, with a headscarf wrapped, at the time, she was moving possibly outside the walls of the building of her summer residence. She was not alone but protected by her trusted officer. The tourists struck a conversation with the sweet old lady, remaining wholly oblivious to the fact that they were speaking with the Queen. They, in fact, asked her if she lived nearby and whether she had met the Queen. The royal lady affirmed that she indeed lives nearby. Then gesturing towards the policeman accompanying her, she cleared that she had never met the Queen but this man has met her.
They went on their merry way without once realising who they were talking to. How wonderful it is to be so incognito when you are the most famous woman in the world.
