How Nigeria’s Anneozengogozi Aid Foundation Is Helping Kids Go Back To School

When families struggle to meet their basic needs, school supplies can’t just be a priority. We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.

Many people today agree that we need to reduce violence in our society. But we have not pursued that goal actively. If we are truly serious about this, we must deal with the roots of violence by educating the less privileged children in the streets, particularly those who exist around us.

It was a thing of joy for us at Anneozeng Ogozi Aid Foundation to put smiles on the pupils in three different primary schools around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT ) suburb:

1. LEA Primary school Jeida in Kuje area council Abuja,

2. LEA Primary School Kagini, Abuja,

3. LEA Primary School Wukara, Abuja

AOAF gave out school materials like exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and paid school fees for some of the students. They also reminded the pupils of the importance of education, personal hygiene, and made them aware about domestic violence.

About AnneozengOgozi Aid Foundation (AOAF):

AnneozengOgozi Aid Foundation (AOAF) is a nonprofit organization borne out of the passion for mitigating hopelessness among people in Nigeria. Our services cuts across various areas including enhancing the quality of education, creating health awareness, advocating for women and children’s rights, providing humanitarian services, providing care for the physically challenged and empowering women, youth and children.

The organization’s mission is “providing a suitable and sustainable world in which everyone enjoys the right to a good life, filled with dignity and freedom from poverty and all forms of oppression.”  This was adopted following the vision of the organization and the poor living condition of people in rural communities.

According to the UNICEF, over 10.5 million Nigerian children in the age group of 4–14 years are out of school. The girl child, mostly have a high rate of absence in schools as only 48.7% of the girls are in schools.

Primary education is useful to the development of the child and the society at large in various ways. Family and government are the agents that impede the roles of primary education in developing both the child and society. As Malala Yousufzai said, “One book, one pen and one teacher can change the world.”
