Poem: Golden Seeds

They came, they cried with us,

And laid the foundation of trust

We shared our pain- expected something to gain

We showed the dried patches of land to them and wells without water,

They said everything will be fine-the strategies need to be altered.

They said there has been a theft- A theft of trust and the resources that once belonged to us.

And we believed as they had laid a foundation of trust.

They said it’s not too late, It’s a matter of fate.

They came with a solution and we saw it as a revolution.

The seeds, yes they brought ‘gold’ seeds.

The seeds were gold, but we forgot that the soil is old.

Ugh! They had a solution for every damn thing!

They brought food for the hungry soil,

To reduce the turmoil.

Chemical fertilizers, yes! the food it was.. the food that’s going to determine the wellbeing of the plant family.

We were overwhelmed with the gesture,

As the food support changed the soil texture,

We relished and the harvest flourished.

Unfortunately, the joy did not last,

This time, it was worse than in the past.

The mother earth was bored with the taste and quality of food we served,

The soil was no more concerned,

They were right, it was a matter of fate.

Nature had its own game- that looked like the game full of hate.

We tried apologising to the mother by saying that we had no choice,

Our children were dancing as they had got a reason to rejoice.

The well-wishers are now nowhere to be seen.

Our capability to return the advance that we took is lean,

The modified seeds converted the bugs into superbugs,

And we realised that the well-wishers were nothing but thugs.

I am unable to resolve the problem from my side,

Family and friends, please forgive me for this suicide!

Sigh!
