How An Internship Helped Me Follow My Passion For Writing

“The love of learning, the sequestered nooks, and all the sweet serenity of books.”

After years of believing in these words by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, I developed an unquenchable thirst for reading books and making a career in writing. In my second year of BBA, I decided to do an internship. So I signed up on Internshala and started looking for work-from-home internships. Soon I stumbled upon an internship at Melting Flowers. It had everything I wanted: a flexible schedule and an opportunity to transform from a girl who won creative writing contests in her school to a professional writer.

I quickly applied for the internship by answering the “Why should you be hired?” question, wherein, I emphasized my will to pursue writing and improve my skills. I was shortlisted for the internship and was asked to submit a write-up on “Flower decoration plays an important role in Indian weddings”. After a week or so, when I had assumed that I wasn’t selected, I received a congratulatory email citing my selection, and my happiness knew no bounds.

As a content writing intern at Melting Flowers, I wrote articles on various topics related to wedding decorations and published them on the company’s WordPress blog. Some of the articles I wrote were on topics such as Prop Decoration for a Wedding VenueTips for Decorating a Wedding Hall, and Trending Theme Decorations for Weddings. This helped me not only in improving my writing and research skills but also in learning the functionalities of a WordPress blog—applying tags and adding links to other articles and websites.

Apart from writing articles, I was given the responsibility of reviewing the top-notch wedding venues in Bangalore such as Radisson Blu, Elim Resort, JW Marriott, etc. and write reviews on them. To do so, I would visit the official site of the venues, gather all the information about the services they provided, and read the reviews written by other bloggers and customers. The next step was to visit various travel sites and wedding-related blogs and gain more information in this context. Once I was done with my research, I would write about how the venue was a suitable location and a good choice for planning a wedding, emphasizing the services provided by it. During this stint, I learnt to compose persuasive write-ups and edit an article stringently as well as enhanced my creative thinking.

I am grateful to the platform for adding a feather to my cap by providing me with this opportunity through which I could unfold my talent and turn my passion into a career.
