Living In Past

Bill Belichick once said, “To live in the past is to die in the present.”

One of the major problems we face in today’s world is that most of us keep comparing our past with our present and based on that we think that our future is nothing. But does that really work that way? I guess the answer is NO. The past is past for a reason. If we keep on comparing our past and present, we will get a confused soul without any answer and without any future.

Life is the most beautiful creation gifted by God to us. Each day is meant to be celebrated with open hands. I know we all have problems; each one of us is fighting our own battles. Some are facing a financial crisis; some are going through a rough patch in their relationship; someone has just lost their loved one, and so on. All of us are stuck in something or the other.

The real problem is not the person or the thing which forces us to stay in the past; the real problem is our mind which keeps haunting us with memories. This memory is the only reason we can’t get out of our past, and enjoy our present and think of a beautiful future. Memories are the only thing that we can cherish for a lifetime.

One should learn the lessons which our past is trying to teach us, and implement them in our present—to make our future worth living. The past cannot give us anything now. It was our present at one point, but now, it is the past so let it be.

We just need to have faith in God. Let’s not challenge God because he knows what’s best for us. I know all these things are easy to say but hard to understand. But once you understand them, you can enjoy the present—even if you are in a lot of pain.

Or we can think about it in another way. If one is going through a bad time, maybe God is trying to teach us some lesson, which will give us a reality check. It’s best if you can have faith in God because he knows what is good or bad for us. We are all his children, and a parent can never do anything bad to his children, no matter what happens.

Let’s not waste any more time in the past. Let past be past.
