However, the reality of Balochistan is very different from the popular perspective, and the youth of Balochistan has taken it upon their shoulders to give the area a newfound place on the world map. They are doing this by showing that the region is linked to technology, by breaking stereotypes, and by hitting the latest rap trends.
These youth are bringing back the Baloch culture and are proud to announce their Baloch roots to the world. It is extremely rare to see the youth of a forgotten culture taking an active part in reviving it. These youngsters are a source of extreme pride to their parents, friends, family, and the entire Baloch community all across the globe. Lyari Under Ground (L.U.G)
The first and the most prominent name in Pakistan’s rap game is Lyari Under Ground (L.U.G). This rap group stems from Lyari, (a small town in Karachi). The members of this group are all from Baloch descent and take extreme pride in their backgrounds.
Lyari Under Ground has become very popular for its different style of rapping. They have has also gained the attention of the international community. A member from the group called DJ Khalifa, had the privilege to share the stage with an international rapper and Grammy winner, Diplo.
The two rappers had a great time on the stage of the Mad Decent Block Party. The rapping group is rapidly climbing the stairs to success, and soon will be the talk of the world. Their challenged history and life-altering experiences are what inspire their fans. Many slum children are able to relate to this group and wish to follow their footsteps.
The First Female Vlogger From Balochistan
The next shining star is Anita Jalil. Anita is a small-town girl and she’s the first-ever female vlogger from the region of Balochistan. In a land, where even the education of women is questioned, Anita managed to do the impossible. Anita started her own YouTube channel and made videos to raise the voices that were silenced for years. Anita is seen as an advocate for the Baloch women and addresses a variety of issues while travelling all around Balochistan and abroad. This is a big deal for a woman from the Baloch community as they are conservative and do not appreciate acts like these. Anita has had her share of repression, overcoming it with her unwavering confidence, as she continues to make videos.
She was inspired by Chiragh Baloch, a vlogger from Pasni, Gwadar. “I did not intend to be a vlogger, but he inspired me to do it. My dream has, however, always been to be a theatre artist.”
It is great to see the youth of Balochistan finally taking matters into their own able hands and it’s inspiring that they have decided to change their fate and the fate of their people.
