‘Polluted’ Politics Has Only Made Delhi’s Pollution Worse

Innocent people are suffering on the roads of Delhi. It would be difficult for our politicians who live in air-conditioned rooms to survive here, then what about the people who live on the road-side and in slums? No one is talking about people from low-income and marginalised groups.

Health experts say that severe condition of air pollution not only affects our lungs and the respiratory system but also our brain, and also creates a lot of skin-related diseases, including different kinds of cancer. The government is supposed to protect the people and not create new problems due to their negligence and carelessness towards the people.

Due to lack of proper coordination between the centre and state governments, today, more than three crore people in Delhi and it’s surrounding towns are having to face severe air pollution. The Delhi government has recently declared that schools will be closed for two days due to severe pollution levels.

Air pollution is a common phenomenon in Delhi especially during November and December every year and Delhi’s air quality creates its own new record each time. Every state government till now knows the reasons behind Delhi’s air pollution problems but unfortunately, they are not willing to take remedial measures to prevent it from getting worse, even though the Supreme Court had rapped the concerned authorities.

Delhi has become a concrete jungle, and plants are cut down indiscriminately in the name of development. Why is tissue culture is not implemented in Delhi? The Delhi government should distribute free plants that release oxygen 24/7. There is a big necessity for every inch of land in Delhi to be covered with plants, including house-tops, and public as well as private properties.
