CAA Protests: Internet Suspended And Section 144 Imposed In Parts Of Delhi

As the protest against CAA grows, section 144 has been imposed in various states, like Uttar Pradesh and Delhi (Red Fort Area). Prior to this, the B.S.Yediyurappa-led BJP government has imposed the same in many parts of Karnataka, for three days, in order to combat the massive protests taking place.

Areas like Red Fort have been under surveillance, and various prominent personalities like Swaraj India’s Yogendra Yadav and Ram Chandra Guha have been detained in Red Fort and Bengaluru respectively.

NDTV reports that “Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio have suspended their mobile services, including voice and internet, in many parts of Delhi following a government directive on Monday in the wake of expected protests in the capital.”

14 Metro stations have been closed down in Delhi, surrounding the situation of chaos. Further, protest marches are expected in other parts of the country, including Kolkata, wherein Mamata Banerjee will continue to oppose the amended Citizenship Act.

The Delhi Police has not granted permission for the protest march to be held by the communist party from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar, which may further intensify the situation in the National Capital.

Heavy security arrangements have been made outside the Red Fort ahead of today’s protest march, that is going to take place, even after the administration denied permission. The police also imposed restrictions banning large gatherings near Red Fort in central Delhi, and until reports last came in, several protesters in the area had already been detained.
