The All India Loktantra Senani Joint Action Committee said that are observing a ‘Silent Satyagrah’
Some demands by the volunteers jailed during the period of the emergency include a “white paper on the Swatanrata Sainik Samman Yojana fund’.” The volunteers also demanded to know why the “MPs, MLAs need any privilege.”
The Senanis (volunteers) of the All India Loktantra Senani Joint Action Committee staged a ‘Silent Satyagrah’ at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial, Raj Ghat, in Delhi on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. The peaceful march has been organised to reiterate and raise the demands for the rights of volunteers and leaders jailed during the period of Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The National President of AILSJAC, Govardhan Prasad Atal, said, “We have four main demands to the government of the day. First is to publish a white paper on the pension, salaries, and facilities granted to MPs and MLAs. Second is a white paper on the thousand crores fund spent on Swatanrata Sainik Samman Yojana in the schemes of 1980 and 2017-20. Our third demand is to curb the self-declaration of pension and facilities by the MPs and MLAs. If they call themselves the servant of people then why do they need special privileges? Our fourth demand is to discourage the state government from discontinuing the pensions of Loktantra Senanis in India.”
The committee asks the government to take action against those policemen and officers who indulged in barbarism during the Emergency. More than one lakh volunteers had been jailed and had to bear inhumane conditions during the Emergency.
The members have been raising their demands and concerns for a very long time. They said that it is discourteous and uncharitable to forget those senanis and leaders who sacrificed their lives to save the democratic fabric of this country.
The Delhi President of the Welcome Committee Vijay Sharma (65-years-old, jailed during the Emergency), Rakesh Jain, 70, (Secretary) and Om Shakti Ji Babu, the General Secretary were mentoring the peace march. The march commenced at Raj Ghat and saw participation by thousands of Senanis and volunteers of the ‘All India Loktantra Senani Joint Action Committee’. A protest at the Jantar Mantar has also been planned for Thursday, December 5.
