Hong Kong has been a part of China, with its own democracy, own currency. It has its own democratic rights. China is a communist state and to curb democratic processes in Hong Kong, passed an extradition law which states that any extradition will be able to bring convicts from Hong Kong to mainland China. It means the Chinese government wants the right to bring prisoners so that they can punish or execute those prisoners. Because of this, Hong Kong people started protesting against the Chinese government. The protest was done on a large scale.

The protest started in 2019, and this is what the protesters demanded.

They want a complete withdrawal of this law. During the protest, two people died and many got arrested. Due the scale of the protest, international politics also became involved. US President Donald Trump warned the Chinese government.

Due to intervention by the US, China was forced to take back this law. The Chinese government, at last, declared after a year of protests.

Many opposition leaders in Hong Kong started tweeting that these protest should not be called ‘riots’ by the Chinese government.

It was a big victory for the people.

Today, in India – world’s largest democracy, protests are being called as riots. When protest happened in 2011 for anti-corruption movement still government didn’t pass Lok pal bill and now in 2020 protest against CAA and NRC, still going on. Still,  the government didn’t dare to take any steps behind. Protest are never won in country but it results in the defeat of the ruler party.
