Poem: India, A Fairytale

This is the story of India in the form of a fairytale, ending with a hope for change.

India: A Fairytale

Once upon a time,
In a land called India,
There existed hundreds of cultural groups.
The state was known widely for its diversity,
And it carried the motto of unity in diversity.

Just when the country had stabilised, a long time after its highly dreaded partition,
It was occupied by a group of people
Who was power-thirsty.
They were a threat to everything the country had boasted about;
They divided people on the basis of their religion;
They separated people, polarised communities.
They were widely known for their divisive strategies,
And they began to wreak havoc;
They sidelined anyone who tried to oppose them.

We, the People of India, must unite against hate and force the haters out of power, not by violence but by peace.

But then came the saviours of the nation,
Knights in shining armours,
The intellectuals who wore their opinions proudly.
And they were joined by the people
Who proudly recognised themselves as
“We, the People of India.”
They united against hate,
And forced the haters out of power,
Not by violence but by peace;
They restored the ideals,
And led the nation to greater heights of prosperity,
And
And what else?
Everyone lived happily ever after.
