The Coronavirus Avalanche: Why Community Policing Is A Necessity Now

What surfaced at the end of 2019 has now spread far and wide in the world. Coronavirus is a rapidly spreading virus which can quickly get spread by networks. A networking web has no end, so we can imagine the potential of how deadly this widespread virus can be! So far, social distancing and lockdowns are the only tools to eradicate this network.

This densely populated nation, India, has planned to implement the 21-day lockdown successfully. However, this will prove to be challenging because we are larger in numbers. On the other hand, this network has to be stopped anyhow. If we enter Stage 3 of this pandemic, it will be nearly impossible for us to come back on track.

So, how can we fix it and maintain the lockdown? Here’s what can be done:

Community Policing Can Be An Option

Community Policing is a type of policing which works closely with the community to deal with serious community issues like road safety, cleanliness, etc. So what can be a more serious community issue other than the coronavirus right now?

We are a large population, so it is very difficult to have control over everyone without community policing. The police force is less in numbers and the population is super large. Therefore, the police can join hands with the community to make this lockdown more impactful.

Here’s what the police can do. They can get a few volunteers from each village/town/city and giving the responsibility of a particular area to each group. The community police will take measurable steps to not let people come out of homes. If anything goes downhill, the community police can inform the authorities. They will have a closer association with the police and every local police authority will be there to make it possible.

Important Roles Community Police Can Play

The community police can do it all. This is the time to get together. We all need to work together with the police, media, and our entire community. If such a system is getting implemented, I will be the first one to be a part of this. May God help everyone. Hare Krishna.
