I was questioned about the circumstances of a gay child in school. I thought that the child would face bullying, regardless. The thought was true, but horrific. So I address this letter to every school child who engages in bullying, by either by doing it, encouraging it, or silently witnessing it.
School is the start of your social relationships. You will make friends and enemies here. Some of these relations would stay forever, some friendships will fade in a couple of years. But what a child will never forget is bullying. It will leave an imprint on their soul, always burdening the mind, one way or another.
I believe the greatest differences in the human race are created by gender. Most discrimination is faced by people because they belong to a certain gender. You must have listened to feminists and misogynists debating about the equality between males and females. What, I feel, does ends up not get addressed ever is the plight of people from the LGBTQ+ communities.
I’m sure you must have heard from your parents, certain things about LGBTQ+ folk. Let me tell you, most of them are false, and those are stereotypes. If you believe those stereotypes, you’d be doing the most harm to this society. You must have seen a kid walk through hallways and being called gay, with people laughing or making fun of the child’s preferences. Kids, you’re wrong to do so. But, it isn’t your fault. You’ve been taught so by society, by your parents and friends who learned it from their parents.
Everyone dreams of changing the world. So why not make this change? End bullying, especially of people from the LGBTQ+ communities. You can stop those who do it, explain to them, and help those being bullied. It’s your responsibility to not believe everything that the society says.
Come, let’s change the world. Let’s learn to embrace our differences. Let’s do something to be proud of. Gay kids or lesbian kids are just like you. They just don’t have the same preferences as you. I think we can live with that, right? They are your friends. So make your friends happy. Help them. Accept and celebrate.
