Poem : Go Corono Go

People walking alone with masks / or without
Outside the city – like sheep like dogs
People – not people, I am not sure.
I am sure, we are barking, all of us
On our social profiles, we are empathizing

And the government sulks; the prime minister
Sitting and working for twenty-seven
Hours a day sucks, and also he sulks…
And gives us a twenty-one-day ultimatum
Go Corona Go. Go Corona Go. And plates

Are being rung and bells are being rung
And The Plague is being read. Everywhere.

Leave leave leave, the city, O the dwellers
Of the city, leave asap, and do not come
Back; unless called. By us. We will call you back
Don’t worry, and then you can sleep under the

Migrant workers at the Anand Vihar Bus Terminal. Photo: Anuj Srivas

Bus stops, in between the gullies with trashcans
And cats, and dogs, and then we’ll forget you.
And like sheep, you will be our cleaners.

And like sheep how you walk – poetic
I see in videos; I never met you, I am locked

By a virus which is cleaning the earth – Delhi
Is breathable! Believe me! and already
My mind is mush, my eyes are mush, the mascara
That I applied yesterday is wet – poetic;
Because I am crying; in front of the public I care

I care, I care, I really do; in bus stations, they collect
I care; I care when they walk. Go Corona Go.
Go, the city-dwellers go. I care and cry;
I care for them, I care for them; Go Corona Go.
