#MyPeriodStory: My Period Story

As a woman, it really becomes difficult and uncomfortable to work all day during the menstruation cycle. A pad or tampon really doesn’t help with comfort for the majority of us. The feeling it gives away makes us feel irritated and hinders with all th work we are trying to do or spoil the mood where we cannot enjoy what we like. But recently, I have seen the rise of different products that we can use as an alternative which is actually a perfect way to stabilise the menstruation sanitation and problems that come with it.

We often fear that our clothes might end up with stains in public when we jump around or run for work. At home, we sleep or sit very stiff in fear of staining anything.  The diva cup apparently eases your conscience about this. It is a menstrual device that’s sole purpose is to collect menstrual fluids and prevent it from leaking onto the clothes. But, you need to keep them clean–wash them clean, use it with clean hands and if you want to dispose them, you can. The sustainability of the diva cup has been designed for reuse. It is considered to be safe by the medical community and it is helping the enviornment as the use of tampons and pads in the landfills decrease. The diva cup has a varying volume it can hold. Either way, it is safer to use this for 12 hours a day instead of 4to6 pads and tampons an hour. It can be of risk but if you follow the instructions carefully , there is no harm in using it.

Cramps really do get the worse out of us right? The menstrual disc can apparently reduce it just a smidge.  Similar to the cups, the disc works slightly different. It is wider as it sits in the vaginal fornix at the base of your cervix. You don’t need to boil them to disinfect it or reuse it . It is a one time use. You can dispose them away. The best part is that it reduces the period pains. There are no risks of TSS. However, you need to maintain proper sanitation process while using it. You need to change them according to your flow. At the same time, it might seem slightly expensive because you might need to change it more than once but it can be used upto 12 hours a day.

The commercial pads and tampons consist a particular polymer material which has been a hinder to the sewage system and poses a threat to the environment due to the toxicity. This can be prevented if we use Day Pads. These pads are cotton and has winged envelope style holder which helps in the flow absorption. These pads are eco- friendly than disposable pads. It is meant to last for 5 years and can save us a lot of money for a long time. So if we use them, we kill two birds with a stone—saving and having a better menstrual hygiene and helping the environment from toxic damage.

At the same time, you can use Organic Cotton Non- Applicator Tampons designed by the company CORA. For each box you purchase, they donate a one month supply of menstruation products to various developed countries and helps in their education as well. What better way to help others in need while you are menstruating? It is a win-win situation for the buyer and the seller that helps others as well. These are 100% cotton and biodegradable as well. It is a great buy due to the compostable quality along with it being totally vegan!

With so many inventions —some of which are women owned companies, these alternatives work best instead of the traditional means.  They are game changers for sure! Even though it is not widely used yet, we should try it for change maybe? It might help you, the people around you and the environment as well.

No one is forcing anyone to buy them or sue them. I read about it recently and they have been on my mind. So I thought of sharing it on this platform. It is a great way to start a eco-friendly MHM process according to my thinking! You can search these up on online shopping websites!

Good luck! Stay Strong!Keep on bleeding!
