#MyPeriodStory: My Period Buddies

I am a 23 years old small town girl recently shifted to Pune for my Post Graduation. I am not going to write about the problems and need of awareness. The only aim of this story is to share what role my loved ones play during those five days. So, being an Anaemia patient periods were never easy for me. Either menstrual cramps or the bleeding, in my case they are never normal. My daily routine including my college gets affected during periods. Even I have to visit hospital once in three months. It was almost three years ago when my doctor told me that I am anaemic and I have to take care of myself even more now. I am a lazy person who cannot stick to anything for a longer period. Even though I know how serious this anaemia can get I never took any proper care until I realized how much my loved ones care about me. From family to friends even my dogs are more concerned for me than I ever can be.
The day my parents knew about Anaemia they were more tensed than me. My mother started searching home remedies, and sources of iron and she started making a lot of recipes so that I can consume more and more Iron. My father visited our family doctor again and again to know which supplements and medicines will be useful. I still remember he used to take me to the hospital everyday for my injections.

Apart from this whenever my cramps start my dog sits beside me to make me feel good. Once when I was on my period and when the cramps started, I was crying and my mother was sitting next to me and my dog gave me his paw like he was saying, don’t worry I am with you. That day my father wasn’t home and I didn’t have any medicine so I asked a friend for help and she brought me medicines and stayed till I felt well. There’s a friend of mine whom I call whenever the pain gets severe because we feel the pain more when we concentrate on it. I call him even in midnights and he talks to me and makes me feel calm. Another friend I have who is as strict as my father when it comes to my health. We live in two different cities but he always takes care of whatever I eat and whether it is healthy or not. He is so much concerned about my health that he made me fix a daily schedule and every night he texts me to ask if I followed the schedule or not. Also there is a friend of mine who checks on me every day during those days, she suggests me how to handle the mood swings and she always knows whatever I need during periods. She made me realize that periods are not about the physical health only but one should take care of their mental health too. She even remembers my period dates and whenever I act more sensitive during that time she reminds me of my date because most of the time I forget the date.
These little things play a very important role in those five days. These periods and the problems associated with them made me realize that how much my dear ones love me and I am so thankful to them for standing with me and making me feel good during those days. I must say they make me feel like a princess.
