Why Should My Gender Determine What I Study?

Ever since the rise of the concept of feminism, we have seen how new concepts emerge to talk about ‘masculinity‘ or just to try highlighting that there exists a thing like that.

When one observes, this masculinity is often expressed in the career preferences one makes, or more correctly is ‘offered’ to make. Taking my case, I was given the ‘choice‘ to go with science and not humanities in my +2 studies because I am a heterosexual boy.

There are many cases which we come across on a daily basis where people are ‘given’ a specific choice just because of their gender and/or sex. We are in the 21st century, but still, boys are expected not to be a dancer, but I think this notion changes when it comes to dancing in a pub!

Girls still are questioned and are asked to rethink whether or not they want to take up engineering. Girls are always given the ‘choice’ to become a teacher instead of a pilot.

Gender is always reflected in what one studies. And also what one studies, is it taught together?

The thing is that we do see discrimination every day, but we do not consider it as discrimination.
