Poem: The Garden

Representational image

I have sensed you in the Garden

Where no one really goes,

But it was me who dared to wander about.

No no, I’m neither a soldier nor a king,

I am a child who is deprived of love.

I took the form of a miscellaneous bird,

And flew all over the place.

I saw the shapeless beauty of the unknown,

Diluting their essence in the air.

I echoed your name

So many times into the vast spaces—

Only to be returned by some

Beautiful and soulful senses.

I longed for your touch,

Your smell and sight

And eventually discovered that –

You were the Garden!

There were no flowers.

It was you who blossomed

And with some effortless afterthoughts,

I saw my own reflection.

I’m not a bird, I’m not a cloud

You were always the creator,

And I was always your seeker

This was the nature of our relationship

Yet I never understood it . . .
