Youth Ki Awaaz Turns 12

Much love, from Team YKA.

Today, your platform, Youth Ki Awaaz turns 12 and from the entire team of YKA, I want you to know that you’re the reason why we do what we do.

Voices of young people from across the country, especially the ones that don’t catch the imagination of those in power, are going unheard every single day—and we’ve seen countless examples of that. That’s a real struggle that young people are having to put up with, every living moment. And yet, thousands of you use the YKA platform to speak up on issues that really matter. These 12 years of YKA are about those 1 lakh voices that have made YKA what it is—a platform whose users, YOU, want to make sure that every young person has a fair shot at speaking up. Because when several of us speak up—change actually happens.

To mark this 12-year celebration, I would love to invite you to join me in writing about why you chose to write. Hundreds of YKA users have come together to share really personal and powerful stories about why they believe in the power of writing, and the impact it can have. As a part of #WhyIWrite, I’d love to invite you to share your story of wielding the pen (or keyboard in our case) and using it to speak up! YKA user Sumit sums it up well, “I’m always fascinated by the posts on YKA because of the raw and true content, which is not misleading or fake. And also because of the freedom which this platform provides to its writer and readers.”

We’d also love for you to join us on Twitter, and share your YKA story using the hashtag #12YearsOfYKA. I will also be going live on Instagram with some of YKA’s top users today at 6 pm – make sure you log on and catch us @youthkiawaaz.

We’d be nothing without the community that makes YKA what it is, and you are a critical part of it.

Thank you for everything!
