TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual violence
On March 11, 2020, an old lady filed a missing complaint in Sitapur police station for her six-year-old granddaughter who had been playing outside her house on mobile phone and suddenly disappeared between 11:00 A.M and 1:30 P.M. The family lived in village Kunmera of district Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh. After 5 days, police found a body of a girl in a well of the village.
According to the police, it was a murder case, but when the body was sent for forensic test to the district hospital, it was found that the girl was raped and murdered. The cause of death was pressure on the windpipe.
Then the police started investigating the area and interrogated people. They observed that one of the villagers was behaving unusually and started interrogating him. After a while, they found that he was the culprit of this case. He confessed his crime and explained the whole thing. He told the police that he first kidnapped the child and when she started screaming, he strangled and raped her. He continued this activity for the next 4 days and when the body started decomposing and smelling, he threw it in the well of the village.
Now the culprit is in custody and had been sent to the Baal Sudhar Kendra since he is just 16 years old.
Our law states that a person older than the age of 16 shall be deemed as a major (an adult) in rape cases specifically. Still, he was sent to a rehabilitation centre.
