A Slap A Day

I should’ve stopped you, the first time you lay your hand on me! I thought that this is how a man should treat her woman when things are not done as per his preference!

I should’ve stopped you, when even after denying you forced your self on me! I kept it going coz that’s what my mother taught me, the fundamental duty to satisfy my man’s need, what about me?

You pour the hot tea on my face when the sugar was a little less, and I cried the whole day while I got ready for you in the evening, preparing a wholesome meal to make it up!

A text from my male friend made you furious that you broke my cell phone and threatened me to divorce! That was like – whatever my mother taught the entire life, gone in vain! I was scared because I had nowhere to go!

You punched me when I just laughed when a friend of yours cracked a joke on you! You make me eat – yogurt (which I’m allergic to) in front of your friends, as proof of my love for you!

You laughed at my broken English and when I laughed at your broken Urdu, you slapped me!

Every day I thought of dying, everyday I thought today will not end with a slap or you forcing your self on me! Every day I hoped that you’ll turn in to a decent man! Every day I died!

Was it my mistake to follow my mother’s teaching? Was it my mistake to not to stop you and fight back?
