Are We Really Humane?

I live in a small town in Punjab and always have been intrigued by the nomadic lifestyle. Of recent, a small group of Gujjars moved in to a plot adjacent to our house.

My father got into a conversation with a young Gujjar boy, and we were shocked to realise that these days not only the shopkeepers are refusing to sell them any items but also the community is being forced to sell milk at mere Rs 20/litre, and later, the buyers are reselling the same for RS 55/litre.

There is only one justification of the treatment being meted out to them: their religion. If one dives a little deep into the facts, it stands that selling milk is their sole income.

I stand shocked and disgusted!
