COVID-19: Rural Poor Are At Risk And Here’s What We Can Do To Help

We all know our country comes in the top developing nations all over the globe. Two-thirds of India’s population is still dependent on agriculture and its allied activities. We can say that 70-80% of our population is still dependent on daily wages especially in rural areas. But during this harsh time, rural people are finding themselves quarantined with no access to food and other essential commodities. Many informal workers, daily-wagers, and their families don’t have even shelters. Thousands of homeless people need protection.

Our government is trying their level best to overcome this situation but without the cooperation of every citizen, it is going to very difficult. Donating some money in PM funds does not mean we have done our part of a true citizen. In school days, we learnt that all citizens are our brothers and sisters then why don’t we treat them like that and help them in this situation? We can start an initiative to donate some food to a needy. I am not saying to start doing charity and organising communal meals (langars). Just that each day, we can donate a part of our daily meal to these needy people.

Every day, we see several Instagram challenges so why don’t we start a challenge of not keeping our brothers and sisters hungry by donating a part of our meal to them. #beatcoronahunger #beatcorona #weareunited
