Opinion: This Lockdown, Mother Earth Relives Its Bounties And Heals Itself From Our Sins

Amid the coronavirus lockdown across the word, many people and communities are struggling and coping with stress. Everyone is doing their level best to keep themselves safe and secure throughout the day.

With so many negative consequences due to the lockdown all around us, there is but one positive consequence for our Mother Earth — of getting a chance to heal itself from hazardous and toxic substances that have made it difficult for the planet to sustain itself.

This lockdown has given Mother Earth a chance to relive the bounties of Nature. We have realised that we have saved lakhs of litres of fuel by not going out for unnecessary drives, thus reducing traffic on roads. The skies are clear now, which means that all this while, they were thickly layered with high levels of pollution. The noise of honking and unnecessary activities have been put on hold. We are able to feel the breeze of wind, and listen to birds chirping and singing from our balconies and windows.

We have also realised that because of our greediness, selfishness, and our concern to be more “developed” than others, Mother Earth had to bear much. This coronavirus pandemic has taught us that nothing comes for free; we need to pay directly or indirectly for all the things we do.

It’s not appropriate today that Nature is taking its revenge because of our sins, giving us back what we deserve. But actually, we are giving it time and space to renovate itself.

This Earth Day let’s take a pledge to contribute together in solving the challenges to save the environment throughout the year.
