“Serving In The Northern Command Is Every Indian Soldier’s Dream”

It is every Indian soldier’s dream to serve in the Northern borders of our country at least once in their military career. Popularly known for conducting the famous surgical strikes and avenging terrorist attacks on the Indian soil, Northern Command is the most active army formation dealing with safeguarding the Northern Borders of the country. They overlook the well-being of the people in the crown of India i.e Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and face-off with our two hostile neighbours i.e. Pakistan and China.

The forefront has to put efforts to counter security challenges posed by terrorism and externally sponsored proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir. The Command, with the motto of being ‘Forever in Operations’, has the distinction of having been “in war” in every major conflict of post-Independent India. With its headquarters in Udhampur, the Command looks after almost the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir, which includes the borders of both Pakistan and China.

The formation has three corps: the 14 Corps in Leh, 15 Corps in Srinagar, and 16 Corps in Nagrota near Jammu. The Northern Command was also responsible for conducting the famous 2016 surgical strike. Presently, theKargil War Hero, Lt Gen YK Joshi, is commanding the Northern Command as the current Army Commander (GOC-in-C, Northern Command).
