Its nothing to fear if you pay attention to your condition and try to heal it with lifestyle modification and medical intervention. Representational image.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or commonly known as PCOS, is a health condition faced by people across the globe.

It’s such a condition where multiple cysts form on the ovaries. Doctors say it’s a lifestyle disorder or one can inherit it too. PCOS is also attributed to a hormonal imbalance. The excess androgen produced by the ovaries disrupts the ovulation cycle.

Symptoms Of PCOS

There are a few common symptoms of PCOS. These are-

Do’s And Don’ts

If you have any of the above symptoms, especially the first one, without delay consult a gynaecologist and get an ultrasound done. If the USG report says you have PCOS, consult an Endocrinologist.

An endocrinologist is one who deals with hormonal disorders like Diabetes, Thyroids, and more. PCOS is like these, a chronic development that has to be kept under control. Do not waste your time anymore with a gynaecologist. I am saying this from my personal experience.

Besides medical treatment, you have to change your lifestyle, particularly your diet. First, let me discuss the things you shouldn’t eat. Say no to sugar, white flour, processed foods, dairy products and most importantly, junk food. Because of PCOS, your body can become insulin resistant. So, you should intake foods with a low GI (Glycemic Index). These are foods that take much time to be digested.

Try to include more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Drink water as frequently as you can. Try to incorporate exercise in your daily life, be it Yoga, jogging, or the gym. You should not miss your workout. Any form of exercise impacts hormonal imbalance to a great extent if combined with a proper diet.

Don’t neglect your PCOS cause if you have it, then you are prone to the risk of diabetes, infertility, or even ovarian cancer if you don’t restraint it.

Its nothing to fear if you pay attention to your condition and try to heal it with lifestyle modification and medical intervention. I have been fighting PCOS for a long time. I know how it feels. It’s not easy dealing with PCOS/PCOD. But, you know it is said that the “Human body is the temple of diseases.” We can’t help it. Taking care of our body is in our hands. Also, take care of your mental health ‘Cysters’ because oftentimes, PCOS causes mental turmoil. Keep in mind its just a health condition, it’s not your identity. So keep smiling, keep fighting.
