Science may play a very important role to bring religious harmony.
‘Religion and science debate has been attracting the attention of intellectuals and common people for a long time. More specifically, after Darwin science and religion have been seen as incompatible and contradictory to each other, to answer the big questions. Science and religion both make claim about some very important questions like the origin of life, the origin of universe, and so on. Both science and religion give an answer to these questions. Science is a developing and ever-changing body of knowledge where religion claims the eternal ultimate truth. According to the religious view, there is an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God and he wrote a book which infallible. But, our misfortune is that there many books of these sorts. Each religion embraces a holy (so-called) book that contains the words of God. The book is infallible because the book says so. That is the only evidence can be given in defense of its infallibility. It gives people deluded confidence that they are on the right path and others are misguided. These holy books (so-called) are scientifically backward and their claim contras with new knowledge and do not agree with facts. Religion-based blood shade is the result of dogmatic belief in Holy books. These holy books are hostile to each other. The point is if person A truly believes in religion, he must think that others are misguided and on the wrong path (the wrong path leads to the suffering of eternal hell). Personally, I would not respect a person like ‘A’. Some people suggest religious tolerance can play the role of peace maker here. But the fact is tolerance is patronizing, it is like saying ‘I know you are on the wrong path and will go to eternal but I don’t mind it’ this is an act of stupidity, not tolerance.
Now let come to the title of this article which is “Science may play a very important role to create religious harmony”. After criticizing religion, one may ask, is there such a possibility? Of course, science is our best way of knowing and controlling the world. However, it is not the whole story. There are gigantic mysteries that science has no clue about at all. For instance, what are consciousness, dark energy, and plenty of others? But it does not mean Holy books (so-called) has something to offer. Given these uncertainties, people may still believe in a superpower and spirituality without believing in any intellectually embarrassing stuff of holy books (so-called). After accepting scientific truth, you would appreciate the beauty of reality or as of Richard Dawkins says poetry of reality. There will be no religious conflict, ones you embrace science, holy books lose their authority. Science can completely eradicate a creed called religious fundamentalist because their foundation had been shaken by science. At this point, the religious conflict will not have any motive because of their sole delusion that our religion is superior to has been demolished. So, now the kind of spirituality or religiosity one embraces is Einstein type. So that’s how I justify article title that Science may play a very important role to create religious harmony”.
