“Quarantine Has Become The New Peace For Many, But Where Are Our Sensibilities?”

It has been a hard time for us, right from the end of 2019, and it still continues. We have been hit by the unknown, and are unable to move out of our homes. Some are unable to work, another section is in extreme conditions of hopelessness and despair, and a big part of our country is unable to access the bare minimum. Food, water supply and a lot of new hopes that promise a better lifestyle have come to an abrupt halt, till an indefinite period.

We have suddenly been hit by a virus, which has stopped our lives and the zeal to move ahead. In these difficult times, a word that is doing the rounds is ‘quarantine’. The dictionary meaning of this word is, ‘a period of time when a person or animal that might be infected by a highly contagious disease must be kept away from other people or society at large’. I could never make anything fancy out of this. A person who is seemingly sick and is battling with a deadly disease should be away voluntarily from their family and friends. We are at home to protect ourselves, as well our near and dear ones.

People are seen utilising this free time to the best with the help of popular tools such as Facebook and Instagram. The lockdown has made us relive the good memories we had in the past, mixed with the creativity within us in the present scenario.

Our generation is social-media-friendly, and sharing our views and opinions is just a post away. People are seen utilising this free time to the best with the help of popular tools such as Facebook and Instagram. The lockdown has made us relive the good memories we had in the past, mixed with the creativity within us in the present scenario. Our hobbies are in the frontline now, we never knew there was a Master Chef within us who could give the top eatery in town a run for their money, a singer who had enough of singing in the bathroom, a Picasso in every household with those masterstrokes, a gardener, and what not. We sometimes end up forgetting why we are home, quarantining. The meaning of the word has changed for our entire lives. Isolation is the new peace.

However, amidst our solace, the world is dying a slow death, and sadly, with that our common sense, has gradually withered. Social media fanatics have nothing to do with the pain and suffering any more, or that is what they want to show by posting insanity in our timeline. Scarcity of food is the major concern for a section of people during the lockdown, but we could not resist showing our culinary skills at this time. We could not find any better time to display our best attires lying in our wardrobe. Presenting ourselves with the best of looks and uploading self-grooming and makeup videos has become our priority. This is the right time for us to chill in the pool with a unique brand of alcohol viz a ‘Corona Beer’ to satiate our needs. Sigh!

People of the socially-weaker section, who are deprived of basic education, deserve a lot more support. Support through healing words, monetary aid and necessary supplements. This pandemic has not only taught us a lesson but showed our true colours. Where does our humanity stand?

With the unveiling of our thoughts, the only wish is to regain sensibility before it is too late. To monitor our inner self and put ourselves in the right path is the ultimate need of the hour, and being responsible in the least way. Thankfully, not everyone is ignorant of the situation, but for the rest, it’s high time. Every time ignorance is not a blessing. May realisation and sensibility prevail.
