Assam: Voice of Environment Makes Sure Essentials Reach Homes Amid COVID-19

We all know that COVID-19 pandemic is spreading rapidly globally. Therefore, the government of India has announced a lockdown to save our citizens from this pathetic situation caused due to the deadly coronavirus. But, it is also true that this lockdown has caused difficulties in our daily lives, especially for the poor section of people who depend on their daily wages.

A small initiative by Voice of Environment

To help them, the Voice of Environment (Youth Environmental Organisation) in association with ‘Wings of Youth’ and ‘Anurtha’ have extended their helping hands in Badarpur, Karimganj District of Assam. The team took the initiative to distribute food items, i.e., mainly grocery essential items among the needy people.

The initiative was led by Mr Gaurab Roy, an active member of the organisation, Voice of Environment. A total of seven members from these three NGOs participated. They distributed the food door to door as per the instructions and guidelines given by the administration. On that day, the team tried to reach out to at least 70 families.

All of the members maintained proper hygiene and social distancing norms while distributing the goods, as directed by the government. The team also conveyed to the family members that they must stay at home and not go outside unless it’s an emergency. The shared goal behind this initiative was to ensure that no one sleeps hungry during this heavy crisis caused by COVID-19 and lockdown.

One of the senior member-cum-environmentalist, Moharana Choudhury stated that “This is a global crisis and a big challenge to humanity as well, so all of us must fight back and break the chain by staying safe at home. If we work together, then we can make a difference. We should keep supporting each other morally and mentally.”

The team welcomes all the citizens of India to stand by the poor section of people in this crisis. We hope that our small initiative inspires others.
