Will India Be Able To Fight COVID-19 With A Lack Of Medical Equipment?

We all are aware of this on-going virus COVID-19 or simply known as ‘Coronavirus’. In the current scenario more than eight lakh cases have been registered worldwide, of which over 41,000 have died. In India, the death toll is currently at 68. Now most of the countries are facing lockdowns.

Many theories have been formulated to remove Coronavirus. On Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram people have been making memes and slogans such as ‘go corona, corona go’, ‘stay home, stay safe’. In India, some people still believe in drinking cow-urine to fight the disease – they’re even drinking it in front of everyone. Some of them believe in religious functions. Some of them are beating the plates on the roads. These are very stupid activities that people do every time.

Medical professionals are struggling because of a lack of equipment and infrastructure to fight Covid-19

Apart from all this, countries like Italy, Spain, the United States are all facing difficulties. They have the world’s best medical facilities and equipment but still, they are suffering a lot. In India, cases are much lesser as compared to these countries but are increasing day by day. Even here, there are a lot of good hospitals with the best doctors but due to an increase in cases, people are suffering because of a lack of equipment such as masks, oxygen, gloves and so on. In some hospitals, doctors are having to wear helmets and raincoats to protect themselves from the virus.

Some of them are using low-quality masks. Shopkeepers have increased the rate of masks and sanitizers in such a way that people are unable to afford them.

COVID-19 spreads quickly. So, it is important for everyone to sanitize themselves. Poor quality of these essentials can harm patients as well as doctors. Recently in Kolkata, a doctor complained about the low quality of mask in hospitals but no action has been taken till now. Some of them are afraid to give treatment to patients. At least in hospitals, it is important to provide good quality of masks and gloves for doctors and patients.

We also don’t have proper or wards for COVID-19 patients, don’t have enough oxygen suppliers etc. The death rate is likely to increase rapidly because of this. If we don’t address these problems then later on our situation can be similar to countries such as Italy, Spain, US.

Lack of equipment in hospitals is not a new issue, it’s been going on for years and no significant improvements have been made so far. If this continues then India will not be able to fight against COVID-19 because there is no vaccine or medicine or antiviral treatment for this virus so far.

So, it is important to improve the quality and facilities of medical equipment so that we can save lives as much as possible.
