Opening Alcohol Shops During Lockdown May Save The Economy, But Will Put Many At Risk

As the government gives some relaxations of the nationwide lockdown, several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, have opened liquor shops in the hope of generating revenues.

It was astonishing for me as I saw the liquor shop near my home crowded, with people standing under the hot sun in a long queue. It was very much visible that no one was aware of social distancing. It seemed as if the pandemic didn’t matter to them. I think the government needs to rethink its decision on allowing liquor shops to be opened.

Is it going to serve the purpose of curbing the spread of coronavirus? So far, it can be observed that the spread of the virus is increasing and the knowledge of social-distancing is reducing. Alcohol shops may save the economy, but will put many at risk.
