#CoronaWatch: Epidemic Or Productivity Contest?

The world is facing it’s biggest health crisis ever. Almost 20 nations are in lockdown right now, we have not found any vaccine yet. So, we don’t have any permanent solution, we have only one solution which is ‘Social Distancing’, and hence, we have been advised to stay at home. At the beginning of the lockdown, we all were suggesting each other some good novels, movies and other things to pass this quarantine and we were all promoting the idea of being ‘productive’ and ‘innovative’. But as time is passing, another debate is rising that this is an epidemic, not a productivity contest. Here is my take on that debate.

On the first day of lockdown, we were all very energized and we had made our ‘To-Do Lists’ for lockdown. We were spreading positivity, we tried to remember our old hobbies like painting, singing, writing but now we are beginning to get bored. Now, we try to forget that we are in lockdown but unfortunately, we can’t deny the fact that now this lockdown is affecting us and that’s why some people have started saying that this is not a ‘productivity contest’.

Yes, it is not a productivity contest. We are going through trauma; some students have no idea when they will graduate. There are businessmen whose businesses are going in loss; daily wage workers who are not even getting enough food. So, this is a huge trauma, not any contest. There are people who are facing mental health issues. Maybe, being productive and being positive will help them. Promoting productive tasks is good, but saying such things “If you don’t learn anything new in this lockdown then you are undisciplined” is not great at all.

This is a very tough situation; don’t over-promote any idea, try to live on your own pattern and take very good care of your physical and mental health.
