India Now The Fifth-Worst Affected Country By COVID 19 With 2,57,486 Cases

With 258,090 active COVID-19 cases, India has now surpassed Spain to become the fifth-worst affected country, as of Monday, June 8. John Hopkins University, in Baltimore, currently records India as having 2,57,486 cases, behind UK’s 2,87,621.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, 1,24,429 have recovered and the number of deaths is 7,200. Meanwhile, the Union Government’s website, mygov, states that Maharashtra has the highest number of cases within India, with 85,975 confirmed cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (31,667) and Delhi (27,654).

The infection rates have been rapidly increasing in India with the biggest single-day jump in cases, as the country recorded over 9,000 cases for the sixth consecutive day.

On the global front, the US still leads the chart with 1,942,363 active cases, and in second place is Brazil with 6,91,758 and Russia (4,67,073) coming in third.

The worldwide count of cases is over 7,092,919, with over 406,207 deaths.
