The future we await #Coronavirus

We are residents of a hasty nation. The rushed imposition of the nationwide lockdown and now, the unplanned easing of restrictions at a point of time when we are at our worst in dealing with the SARS-COV-2 pandemic raises a very vital question that all of us fortunate enough to be alive at present have to ask ourselves: Where is this leading us ? Where do the hidden mortality figures, dilapidated hospital premises, dereliction of duty and the political mayhem finally lead the citizens of a country of 130 crores of people to ? For me, the answer is that we should be equipped to deal with much worse than death, and that is the suffering that mostly ensues before death does.

Last day, I watched a clip of a dead man being dragged with utter disregard towards a van. I pray, tell me this : are there left any versions of inhumanity that we’re yet to slip into ? The treatment of a man who has died due to a global pandemic treated like it’s some typical carcass that shows up on the streets every other day is, to say the least, a great blemish on the face of humanity.

However, I have never ceased to feel anything but pride at the wonderful work of so many people strengthening this nation which, despite how spiritually enthralling it is, has not succeeded in making me inconsiderate towards the plight of apparatchiks in the society. I feel equally proud, equally ashamed and more hopeful than ever.

This country can show the way to the world, as is enshrined in our legacy which stretches far beyond any of the global guides that we follow today.

This country will emerge stronger than ever.

This country will not be defeated.

Let us all unite to raise our voices to point out the obvious wrongs and never hesitate to point out the common goodness of our fellow citizens.
