This is not only prevalent among the Indian Leftists but almost every leftist in the world whether it is in the USA, the UK, or Germany. The two notable perceptions they hold are:
- Classes like Minority, Women, Immigrants, or Dalits are by default oppressed.
- Hindus, Brahmins, Rajputs, and other classes are by default oppressive.
The Oppression Theory And Selectivity
No doubt, many of these communities are oppressed. Their voice must be heard and they should be uplifted. Not all leftists are the same but they have a tendency to find an ‘oppressor-oppressive angle’ in every individual event.
Imagine one Hindu person shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in a Mosque or a Church. This happened in the past in Delhi and it was national news. A narrative of propaganda was started that claimed minorities aren’t safe in India. They are subjected to majoritarian communalism. But something opposite had also happened around the same time. Mujibur Rahman entered the Tanjore temple, took photographs of himself kissing Hindu Goddesses, and posted them on Facebook.
One person entered the Isa Ashram of Coimbatore and shouted against the Adi Yogi statue, “No Yoga, No Yogi, Only Jesus can save you.” Still, there has not been much sensationalization of this. Why? It’s because it doesn’t suit their oppression-oppressive terminology.
One person shouted ‘Go to Pakistan’ and killed one minority in Begusarai on May 24, 2019. It became a story in The Hindu that the minorities live in fear constantly. But in a similar instance, one person shouted ‘You Kaafir (infidels)’ and killed one person in Mathura on May 18, 2019.
Both incidents are a blemish on humanity and should be condemned. But again, the last one was nowhere in the national news nor did any leftist take the initiative of helping him as done in the case of Akhlaq or Junaid. Why? Obviously, as usual, it doesn’t suit their oppression-oppressive narrative.
What Is Wrong With Indian Leftists?
- Every life is not equal for Indian Leftists.
- There will be more crying, awards returned, candle marches, and protests over incidents which suit the oppressive-oppressed angle.
- Even an individual matter becomes national news if it suits their theory. This is their pattern, pick up any issue on which Indian Leftists have protested and you will observe the same.
- If it doesn’t suit their narrative, it will remain silent or be avoided or justified.
To conclude, in the era of social media, the people are forcing Leftists to speak on issues and they are obeying. But at the same time, news which is hidden by the Media must also be spoken upon and equality must be ensured.
