After The Brutal Incident Of Racism In Roorkee, Is Anyone Tweeting About It Yet?

TW: Violence and racism.

Never let my name and pain be forgotten,” these were the words said supposedly by Masonda Ketada Olivier who was killed in Delhi in 2016. He was just brutally killed 4 years and 3 days before George Floyd was murdered.

George Floyd’s death received due attention, and I’m so glad that Indian celebrities and other woke liberals were tweeting, sharing, and posting about it. But, have they forgotten the cases of racism in their own country?

Recently, a video has been doing rounds showing two students of African origin being brutally attacked by the security guards on the premises of Roorkee Institute of Technology (RIT). A senior police officer stated that as of Friday, eight people, including the director and deputy CEO, were arrested in connection with the assault to the two students.

Tribune India reported that RIT Director Parag Jain, its Deputy CEO Shrikant, and six security guards Yogesh, Khushiram, Sonu, Ashish, Lalit, and Munendra Chauhan have been taken into custody in connection with the incident which took place on Wednesday.

The officials are interrogating the accused, Circle Officer Manglaur Abhay Singh said. The two students were allegedly assaulted by the security guards when they entered into an argument with them after being stopped from leaving the campus, Singh added.

A college spokesperson said the two students were studying engineering in RIT. A week ago, they had been rusticated for violating rules about movement in and out of the hostel laid down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Indian racism towards Black people is almost worse than white peoples’ racism,” said Arundhati Roy.

The attack on the two students clearly depicts how Indians are selective about outrage! The society we live in has created stereotypes about how a person who looks a specific way will clearly be involved in malpractices. Even Indian cinema promotes it.

Although, George Floyd and the #BlackLivesMatter movement gained a lot of tweets and shares worldwide. Will this recent incident in India even get a though of improving to Indians who do not fail to hurt sentiments over race, caste, gender, and more.
