Reports Of Sexual Assault In Quarantine Centres Makes Me Wonder, Have We Lost Humanity?

The coronavirus pandemic has brought out the worst of ourselves that we could ever have thought of; from months of lockdown to many people losing jobs, to the demise of millions of people around the globe due to the virus.

The camp is part of the government’s surveillance for fever and other symptoms related to the coronavirus. The vast majority of people recover from the new virus. COVID-19 had made us realize how easily the human population can be affected, after belonging to a generation where everything was ‘ultra-modern’ and everything being easily available. This virus taught us to respect the environment, and to stop and breath for a second, and look around us. This pandemic and the lockdown has been difficult for us all. But, we who are still safe and with our family have much to be thankful for.

There are many people who have been in hospitals which have been now turned into quarantine centres to admit the positive patients. There have been various places and hospitals that have been keeping thousands of patients, of various age groups, isolated from family and friends. They have been kept in hospitals with some trust toward the hospital staff and other patients.

But, are we really safe inside a quarantine centre? It is really hard to even imagine being assaulted in a place like a hospital, that too during such a bad time. There has been news on the internet about how a doctor tried to rape a patient within the hospital premises and another recent report where two patients tried assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Delhi.

These news reports make me sick as to how such a situation, where every person is mourning the loss of someone, someone has not been able to earn and feed their family, or many who are stuck at home for months just to avoid catching the virus, people are sick enough to do something like this.

We salute our doctors and nurses who have been doing their best and have been working for hours to treat the patients. But due to the actions of some doctors like the doctor from Aligarh, who tried raping a patient, the whole community of doctors and their work is questioned. Or even those patient boys who assaulted a teenager, like are we all understanding the depth of this virus? The whole world can come to a standstill, that’s how serious this pandemic is.

We should all realize how this pandemic can finish the whole human species if we don’t protect ourselves and this time is actually testing the little humanity that we are to be expected to show. We should be more concerned and try our best to get through this pandemic by being helpful and more human decency should be shown.
