When Will We Start Caring About The North East Floods?

This is the actual situation that is being happening is Assam

Assam a beautiful state of India, which is known for various of its natural places, has been suffering from heavy rainfalls since June which has till date affected thousands of people and their livelihood with floods. It is not the first time that Assam has been hit by floods. It happens literally every year.

Assam has been suffering from floods every year and if you ask me the reason behind it it is simple, due to the vast networks of the river. This year with the whole global pandemic around us, Assam is devastated with floods and has killed approximately 92 people. The number of people who have been living in refugee camps is huge. Feeding more than tributaries of the Brahmaputra also causes floods.

In a situation where people are asked to stay indoors and maintain social distancing, here people are not even left with their houses. It is the village area that is affected the most including the crops that are being harvested.

I have very recently seen people on Instagram starting to talk about it but let me tell you the flood is affecting people since June, I know I am also included in that group but here it is not about talking about the matter, I feel these people who are talking about it in social media are the actual reason people are getting aware of it and taking actions.

The media which plays the most vital role was nowhere to publish any news regarding the Assam flood. Why? Of course, because it was too busy showing us all news related to Amitabh Bachchan and his family being tested positive and how they are living in a hospital.

My concern is not why they are showing us this news, my concern is if we can highlight news about Amitabh Bachan being tested positive then why can’t we highlight news like the flood in Assam that has left many people homeless and without anything to survive.

It is high time Indian media starts talking about the main issues rather than issues which doesn’t need as much focus as they are being given. More realistic news rather than news with lots of tadka should be acknowledged. The politicians are trying and doing their best in what they are able to do from their side. Mrinal Saikia MLA of Khumtai constituency himself went to save people from the floods.

All we have to do is give equal attention to northeast issues and include them as our own in our united India.
