The Great American Democratic Dream: Interpreting Joe Biden

As per a recent study by Pew Research Center, around 90% of the Americans are believed to be dissatisfied with the state of the country, their unhappiness affects their political decisions four months before the US Presidential elections. Trump’s political inauguration has led passage to anger, anguish and bickering embroiling the ordinary Americans reflected in their social and civic ties.

The latest flashpoint being the assassination of a Black American George Floyd in the US state of Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25 creating a furore and outrage by encouraging the people to occupy the streets leading to clashes and conflict involving damage to government properties. George Floyd becoming the figure of resistance in the minds and hearts of the people as they have many more such incidences in the US involving the race and culture of the indigenous people. Shouldn’t we go in the merits of the details?

We ought to- for enriching and enhancing our analysis and understanding of the politics in the US. It will be like Brazil, Turkey, Russia where we have figures like Bolsonaro, Erdogan and Putin outrightly believing in their right-wing expansionary technique and tactics in their outright positioning and posturing as a leader, spokesman and leader. Generating opinions and viewpoints are but one of the most preferred priorities for the right-wing political figures in maintaining their lead, control, hegemony and dominance within and outside the party structure.

Criticisms and dissent largely being checked with a fair amount of obedience and discipline guarantee rewards and promotions to the individual and cadre as largely in a right-wing political culture systematic emphasis are given to the notion of majority.

Majority as a token is integral to the sustenance and survival of right-wing ideology and view giving legitimacy to the assertion of dominant belief practices and value system ingrained in the collective psyche of the individual.

Thus, a look at the political and administrative systems of Brazil, Turkey and Russia will provide us with an illustration of what goes on in the making of popular mandate, territorial sovereignty and national security by containing and checking on any size and scale of criticism, discontent and dissent. The US, either way, is no exception where under the Trump regime impatience has been gaining momentum of late exposed by the vulnerability and spread of Coronavirus.

Economic growth rates have started dipping resulting in job losses which in turn has affected the manufacturing productivity and growth. Diminishing and disarraying the hopes of many progressive and liberal Americans who are made to believe in Trump’s balancing the art of rhetorics and populism making up for the disenchantment and discord resulting from his policy ineptness on the domestic front.

Trump’s political one-upmanship has been largely enshrined in his purchase of the theme- “Make America Great Again” doing disrepute to America’s domestic interest at the expanse of its foreign policy.

Benefitting and bettering his prospects as a political tradesman his re-election bid is fraught with multiple challenges on the home turf and how he lives up to the aspirations and ambitions of the Americans. Interestingly, becoming competitive with the Democratic Joe Biden running as a contender to the Great American Democratic Dream having outperformed his rivals in the Democratic primary race.

Well, we have to pause and see how the situation plays out in the open in the next coming months. Fingers crossed until then.
