Quick Byte: How Coparcenary Laws Have Come Of Age

The amendment Bill to the Hindu Succession Act, 1956 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on December 20, 2004. Later, it came into effect from September 9, 2005 but was rather dubious and flawed. It pronounced, that the rights would not come into effect unless both the coparcener father and his daughter were alive. However, this judgment now stands overruled.

Daughters have an equal birthright to the ancestral property. I opine this right should not only be limited to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhist,s or Jains, rather it must be extended to other religions like Muslims, Christians, Parsis, and Jews as well.
