In the 21st century, the art scene in India has undergone several changes both in the quality and mentality in changing people’s perspectives. Art in India is a mixture of two trends: the traditional touch and the modernised technical aspect. Indian art reflects the ethics, values and perception of society.

Art Has Changed Indian Society:

Art influences societies by changing opinion, value, experiences, insights and instilling values across time. Research has shown that art affects the fundamental sense of self. It also shows that art strikes at the soft point of understanding things.

Dancing, singing, painting, music, sculpture and other art forms are considered the collective memory of society. Art is also fact-based which gives morals to our society. It is a pure way to change a person’s mentality and if a person changes, they can influence others in society.

Moral based dance performances and singing are the nutrients for change. Some people are choosing Hip Hop or rap to influence society.

Art is also historical. It exists in a particular place at a specific time.
Art is a sense of communication; it allows different people to interact with each other. It helps us know our society better, know different cultures. Through art we can communicate with each other via images, sounds, music, etc.

Art is often a vehicle for social change. It gives a voice to the people who want to fight for others. E.g. a song or movie can lead to social change by inspiring people.

Researchers have long been interested in the relationship between art and the human brain. E.g. in 2013, researchers from Newcastle University found that viewing contemporary visual art had positive effects on the personal lives of nursing home-bound elders. Art has a positive impact on the youth of our country. It can be a basic fulfilment needed for our society. It shares a soft connection with our brain i.e. through art we can strike on the major issues.

As the National Art Education Association points out, art is beneficial for the artist as an outlet for work. It not only fosters the human need for self-expression and fulfilment; it is also economically viable. The creation, management and distribution of art employs many.

So what are we waiting for? Be creative and hold the hands of those who inspire you and others for a change in society. It is your choice how you want to be a part of the change. Find out your outlet and be a social changer. Go ahead, release your artistic skills.
